You don't need to leave your 9-5 to become a creator (I'm the living proof!)
How to pivot from a desk job to content creation
Happy Saturday, champ 💖
I got the idea for today’s edition from a recent LinkedIn post where I shared my thoughts on Salary vs Skill Equity.
You can give it a read here.
Salary, for most of us, is a ‘non-negotiable’ thing.
It helps us in so many ways (I don’t even need to tell you about those).
Before the penetration of social media in our lives, this one thing was the primary way to earn money, or you could say we were boxed into a fixed path that followed a set pattern:
Study hard → Get a degree → Land a job → Earn a salary → Repeat.
But with so many technological shifts, AI tools becoming part of everyday work, and social media platforms offering new opportunities, there's another solid option coming into the picture.
What’s that?
It’s becoming a ‘content creator’ or ‘influencer’ (as most people call it).
Is Content Creation a ‘Legit’ Career Option🤔?
There are some questions that instantly come to our minds when we think of giving a try to this content creation thing. The most common of them are:
Is it actually worth it?
Can it really become a reliable way to earn?
Or is it just for a select few?
IMO, the answer is ‘YES’. I’ve done it myself.
I made the switch to this online world while still working a 9–5, which I’ve left.
In case you’re wondering WHY, I’ve shared the whole story here.
How Will You Become a Content Creator💹?
To become a content creator, you need to pay attention to these two things:
Consistency (I know it’s cliche, but you can’t ignore it)
Strategy
Both of these are interrelated in one way or the other.
The more you stay consistent, the better you become at spotting winning and failing patterns. The better you are at spotting patterns, the better content strategy you can create.
Before you jump into creating the right strategy, you need to know the basics of everything. I’ve curated some resources that'll help you do that:
How I Build a Personal Brand on Social Media in 2 Hours a Day (As an Introvert)
Creator’s Success Handbook (helps you find out your niche, platform, and other important metrics)
The Ultimate Creators Success Toolkit (consists of 32 tools & platforms that’ll help you in your creator journey)
Go through these resources and you’ll get an idea of where to begin.
I’ll share more actionable tips in the next edition.
Stay tuned.
